Wildland Firefighter Research and Protection Center

Welcome

We are witnessing a change in the frequency and size of wildfires every year. The increased prevalence and destruction of these fires will only require more of our young men and women to devote and risk their lives to fight these forces of nature.

It is time that we protect, provide for, and reward our heroes of wildland fire.

The Issue

Immediate and substantial action is needed to not only better protect wildland firefighters and ensure their longevity, but to work to strengthen the industry as a whole.

Our heroes lack the proper equipment to keep them safe, lack the proper information to know how to keep themselves safe, and lack the job security and benefits to build a career. This weakens the profession as a whole.

Stories

Andrew Robinson fought wildfires with the Oregon Department of Forestry for almost a decade. At the age of 32 he was diagnosed with a type of bladder cancer usually caused by smoke exposure.

Andrew’s experience fighting cancer at such a young age with limited resources and institutional support is what inspired him to create the Wildland Firefighters Research and Protection Center to give back to his fellow heroes of fire.
